Eldar Autarch: Part 1

Here is an Eldar autarch I am working on in between units of space marines for a friend in our group collecting an eldar force. After much neck breaking work I got I say about 80% percent of him done and yet again I'm quite satisfied with the results. The helmet was the most tricky aspect for me. I didn't feel having it blue would have the model pop from the rest of the grunts (well... not including the swooping hawk wings I haven't got to yet) and so I painted it white. Ends up my white is on its last legs and took quite awhile to get a solid color and I still didn't like it. Luckily as the painting continued everything came together.

One particular thing I like is the highlighting I did on his armor. The subtle difference in shade really did wonders. Incase you guys want to know I started with a chaos black basecoat and then painted the all the armor parts with necron abyss followed by highlights of mordian blue. I really like it. Going to keep that in mind when I do my chaos marines in the far future which are using necron abyss as their main color as well.

As for the cape I followed a guide on this little sheet I got from the foundations paint kit. As always I did a chaos black basecoat (cause metal sucks) and then painted the entire cape with adeptus battlegrey. Then I put on a layer of codex grey, making sure to not paint over the deepest crevices to give the illusion of shadow. Then I finally highlight the very top sections in fortress grey. Not my personal best cape, but still a up there.

His reaper launcher was by far the simplest thing on the entire figure. I just basecoated in chaos black, then a layer of scab red and then highlights of machite red. Also a few bits of codex grey for black highlights and the hand grips.

After all of that comes the challenge of thinking of a good color design for the wings he'll have after I finish his other arm. Then there is the rubble he is standing on as well I'll have to deal with. I'll probably will have that up in at the least a day. I'm flying through this guy.
