The Possessed: 1st Model and some Sable Swords

Yet again... I'll have to apologize for the long times between posts. I just recently moved for college, so expect things like this more often. Well until I start getting content from the rest of the group, then I can whip up articles on them instead of what I do all the time :)

As a sort of bonus to his birthday gift chaos lord I'll be working on once I get the bits, I decided to paint his possessed marines as well. I just got my friend's spruce for his possessed marines earlier in the week and ended up a lot more work than I thought. In the picture below it is the fleshy stuff throughout the armor. Took awhile to figure it out, but ended up looking good. The part I was most annoyed about is my nemesis, white paint. Even with a new pot of it I still have to put 2-4 coats on just to get a nice solid look and it still isn't great in my opinion.

In other news I've been working on another tactical squad, Squad Aratus, of Sable Sword marines for my force. The three here are the first and unlike my first tactical squad, Squad Daceus, these guys look a lot more sharp and when I get to the other eight marines, will have more variety in poses. I'm thinking about throwing some Dark Angel bits into some of the other figures to give more character to the unit, especially on Sergeant Aratus himself.
Yup I gave one a bayonet :)

Eldar Autarch: Completed

So here it is, the eldar autarch from yesterday completed. This model was a great success! By far my best painted model to date. I just keep getting better and better with every model. The one thing I didn't expect is how much this guy reminds me of the american flag... heh.. (remind me about this guy when the 4th of July comes around).

Anyhow, my friend is very impressed by his reaction when he saw him today and honestly I can't wait to see this guy on the battlefield. I hope he fights well for his debut game when his eldar force is done.

This picture does little glory to actually seeing it in person, but I wanted to show the best part about the entire figure I have to say, his power sword. I've seen stuff like this all the time online and I think doing my very bad looking lightning effect didn't suit an eldar so I tried out this technique. For my first attempt it came out very well. If I had a better camera you could see how the tip of the blade is more white and it goes into blue as you look down the blade. I just love this sword blade and need to go back to my terminators and do similar effects now. I hope I can give up this model back to his owner... I could just keep him for myself, heh.

Eldar Autarch: Part 1

Here is an Eldar autarch I am working on in between units of space marines for a friend in our group collecting an eldar force. After much neck breaking work I got I say about 80% percent of him done and yet again I'm quite satisfied with the results. The helmet was the most tricky aspect for me. I didn't feel having it blue would have the model pop from the rest of the grunts (well... not including the swooping hawk wings I haven't got to yet) and so I painted it white. Ends up my white is on its last legs and took quite awhile to get a solid color and I still didn't like it. Luckily as the painting continued everything came together.

One particular thing I like is the highlighting I did on his armor. The subtle difference in shade really did wonders. Incase you guys want to know I started with a chaos black basecoat and then painted the all the armor parts with necron abyss followed by highlights of mordian blue. I really like it. Going to keep that in mind when I do my chaos marines in the far future which are using necron abyss as their main color as well.

As for the cape I followed a guide on this little sheet I got from the foundations paint kit. As always I did a chaos black basecoat (cause metal sucks) and then painted the entire cape with adeptus battlegrey. Then I put on a layer of codex grey, making sure to not paint over the deepest crevices to give the illusion of shadow. Then I finally highlight the very top sections in fortress grey. Not my personal best cape, but still a up there.

His reaper launcher was by far the simplest thing on the entire figure. I just basecoated in chaos black, then a layer of scab red and then highlights of machite red. Also a few bits of codex grey for black highlights and the hand grips.

After all of that comes the challenge of thinking of a good color design for the wings he'll have after I finish his other arm. Then there is the rubble he is standing on as well I'll have to deal with. I'll probably will have that up in at the least a day. I'm flying through this guy.

Busy Times; Good News

Wow, it's been awhile since I've posted some stuff on the blog. Getting ready for college and also trying to add as many new models to my force as possible before hand throws all sorts of trouble in writing for a blog. Anyways, its been an eventful few weeks. First off we gained three new members to our little group, an eldar, chaos and necron players. I have to say, I'm quite excited to seem some battles happen when the armies start forming.

So here it is, my Sable Swords army so far. There is one more terminator now, just finished him today so just throw another lightning claws termy into the group :). I am also very happy with out my new miniatures are coming out, a lot better than I thought. Here is a picture of my rhino as well. For a first time shot at weathering I didn't do that bad.

Also the orks I fought a few weeks ago are growing, I got this picture in an e-mail this past weekend. I have to say, I never knew you could throw so many guns onto one vehicle. Especially an ork one. I'm not too familiar with their codex so it explains my surprise.

Also here is a "teaser" of a project I'm going to be working on for my friend's birthday, a chaos lord of Khorne (one of the new guys from above). I have decided to throw his color scheme into Dawn of War 2 just for fun and they came out very well.

So there is the past few weeks nailed down. I'll be hopefully posting more this week also. Mostly about future plans and some bits on the new members. So until then...
