My First Piece of Terrain and Some Blood Angels

While looking for some dice for a mock battle I am to have with my grandfather next week, I've discovered that there is a hobby store that sells warhammer in the area of my hometown and I was surprised. I was originally imagining it as any hobby or gaming store I go to for my figures and such, but these guys overdid themselves. Called Legions, the store was amazing! The most warhammer and other wargaming goodness I've seen in one spot. Not to mention the tons of tables to play on.

Well not only did I get some dice, but I got some nice gothic ruins for when I play now. As you can see above they are very nice for pre-painted terrain. I'm bound to use this, and two other pieces that came with the set, for a city themed map that I always wanted, but works great for any kind of ruins to use for an objective and what not.
I painted these guys years ago, should of looked at some Blood Angel pictures to get the scheme right, for my friend Justin when he first started.
Now here is a shot of two marines from Justin's Blood Angels army he is assembling. Hopefully we'll get some more pictures of his army in the future soon to check out more of his stuff. I bet we'll see plenty of jump packs and death company soon enough.

Anyway today was a good day for me. If any of you find yourselves in Pittsburgh go check out Legions, great store.

Knowledge is Power: The Black Chalice

Another week, another post. Sorry for being so late on this one. Been a busy past couple of days, but some good news! Got some new sets, a land speeder typhoon, tactical squad and scouts with sniper rifles. A fine addition to my army. Sucks I can't paint them.... Oh well to what I'm suppose to talk about.

This week let's dive into the initiation of the Sable Swords chapter and some other origins background. The Sable Swords homeworld is the planet of Obsidia, a world locked in the same planetary position in its orbit. The world doesn't rotate, but one side constantly faces its star while the other is in complete darkness. It is unknown why the one side is always exposed, but it is reasoned that some sort of magnetic material more common on that side results in the strange position. It can not be certain though.

Another notable feature is the black, almost crystalline rock that sprouts up all over the surface. The rock tends to jet out of the ground like tall prism shaped tubed like any crystal. It is highly resilient and thus the planet's inhabitants commonly use it has building material. The chapter's fortress monastery even has been made out of a highly reinforced and tempered version of the rock.

The significance of this rock is that one of the oldest relics of the chapter is made out of it, the highly revered Obsidian Chalice. The cup, somewhat large to even a space marine, is the only relic to not be lost to the chapter's enigmatic early years and is used during the final initiations of a scout marine into a full battle-brother. After a scout has attained all of his physical and mental enhancements of their rigorous transformation, they are escorted into the main chapel on their homeworld for an important ceremony. Kneeling before the Master of the Chalice (Master of Sanctity to other chapters) and the Chapter Master they take their final pledge and drink blessed water with the ancient chalice itself. It is unknown either or not the drinking has any affect on the marine, but this simple act is highly idolized by the chapter. So much so that if the ceremony is delayed because of the nature of a space marine's duty or the Chapter Master and/or Master of the Chalice isn't present, the marine is still considered a scout in all sense despite having finished that part of his training.

So there you have it, the Obsidian Chalice and homeworld of the Sable Swords. I hoped you enjoyed it!

Sable Sword Terminators Part 1

I've been wanting to post this for a good time now, so its good to finally be able to. That is my assault terminator squad I'm working on. Not much conversion work, more like a couple bits from a Dark Angels set I had laying around thrown into the mix, but I liked how these guys turned out. For me at least the silver front kind of deters the eye away from the legs and to the center of the body.
Now above is a shot of one's shoulder, showing off the cracked golden chalice symbol along with a small Sable Swords one. These guys are known as Black Chalice Knights which I'll explain in a Knowledge is Power post once I get to them. Now any new pictures of these guys won't be around till around two weeks from now as I borrowed out my paints for work on the centerpiece of my army who I can't wait to see finished.

Space Marines: The Chosen Ones

After going through my iTunes today, I came across this old video I had made years ago and uploaded to my practically neglected youtube account. Enjoy!

Knowledge is Power: An Introduction of the Sable Swords

First off I would like to celebrate that we will be getting our first posts out tonight by where I am currently! So I have decided to do a quick introduction of an certain group of space marines that everyone will be hearing about a lot in future posts. That is the space marine chapter of the Sable Swords, a challenge Ardionis and I have decide to take.

Now if some of you do some searching you will discover that the Sable Swords are an official chapter mentioned in the rulebooks, but there is practically nothing about them. Only a few battles here and there, the only major event being the Zeist Campaign against the Tau (blueberries...). Ardionis and I wanted to create our own chapter of marines for a pretty good while now, but we didn't want to just make up a new chapter. We wanted to take a chapter with little or no info on and make them into something. The Sable Swords was the result of that.

There has been some changes from the original history mentioned of the chapter, so most information you'll hear will be fan fiction of our creation. One nagging problem was their very young founding which we didn't like. We changed them to an ancient chapter that dates to the second founding just after Horus decided to mix things up a little with a civil war (heh, well not so little).

The Sable Swords is a chapter that mysteriously lost all history of their founding and all involved in it, even the first chapter master is completely unknown! What is known to them is their most revered relics, a collection of powerful artifacts, were lost and are only known clues to the chapter's origin and what had happened. As a result, Sable Sword marines are relentless when the possibility of such relics can be found and honor to battle-brothers is above all else besides the Emperor. Even during battle it is known that when one of their brothers have fallen, his comrades will wade through any challenge to recover their corpse and insure they are given a proper passing and never forgotten like their ancient founders have suffered.

I hope that sparked some interest in you readers and I hope you'll stay along as the tales of the Sable Swords comes into being.
