Another week, another post. Sorry for being so late on this one. Been a busy past couple of days, but some good news! Got some new sets, a land speeder typhoon, tactical squad and scouts with sniper rifles. A fine addition to my army. Sucks I can't paint them.... Oh well to what I'm suppose to talk about.
This week let's dive into the initiation of the Sable Swords chapter and some other origins background. The Sable Swords homeworld is the planet of Obsidia, a world locked in the same planetary position in its orbit. The world doesn't rotate, but one side constantly faces its star while the other is in complete darkness. It is unknown why the one side is always exposed, but it is reasoned that some sort of magnetic material more common on that side results in the strange position. It can not be certain though.
Another notable feature is the black, almost crystalline rock that sprouts up all over the surface. The rock tends to jet out of the ground like tall prism shaped tubed like any crystal. It is highly resilient and thus the planet's inhabitants commonly use it has building material. The chapter's fortress monastery even has been made out of a highly reinforced and tempered version of the rock.
The significance of this rock is that one of the oldest relics of the chapter is made out of it, the highly revered Obsidian Chalice. The cup, somewhat large to even a space marine, is the only relic to not be lost to the chapter's enigmatic early years and is used during the final initiations of a scout marine into a full battle-brother. After a scout has attained all of his physical and mental enhancements of their rigorous transformation, they are escorted into the main chapel on their homeworld for an important ceremony. Kneeling before the Master of the Chalice (Master of Sanctity to other chapters) and the Chapter Master they take their final pledge and drink blessed water with the ancient chalice itself. It is unknown either or not the drinking has any affect on the marine, but this simple act is highly idolized by the chapter. So much so that if the ceremony is delayed because of the nature of a space marine's duty or the Chapter Master and/or Master of the Chalice isn't present, the marine is still considered a scout in all sense despite having finished that part of his training.
So there you have it, the Obsidian Chalice and homeworld of the Sable Swords. I hoped you enjoyed it!
